The Dejavoo Z9 is a wireless, battery-powered terminal built for merchants who take payments away from the counter. Running on Linux with 4G and Wi-Fi connectivity, a built-in printer, and full EMV chip, contactless tap, and swipe acceptance, it is a go-anywhere workhorse. This Dejavoo Z9 quick start guide takes you from a fresh box to your first successful test sale, in order.
Before you begin, have three things ready: your Wi-Fi password or an activated 4G SIM, your merchant terminal ID (TID), and a 57mm roll of thermal receipt paper. With those on hand, work through the steps below and your Z9 will be live and ready for customers.
1Charge the battery and power on
- Begin your Dejavoo Z9 quick start by charging the rechargeable battery. Plug the included USB-C or barrel adapter into the terminal and a wall outlet, and let the Z9 charge for at least 30 minutes before first use so it can complete setup without shutting down.
- Press and hold the power button until the Dejavoo logo appears, then let the Linux-based terminal finish booting to its home screen. Because the Z9 is a portable, battery-powered unit, keep it on the charger during initial setup and top it off fully overnight before your first shift.
2Connect to Wi-Fi or 4G
- The Z9 connects two ways. For Wi-Fi, open the settings or gear menu, choose your network name from the list, and enter the password exactly as it is case-sensitive. Wait for the signal icon to confirm the terminal is online before continuing.
- For cellular, insert your activated 4G SIM into the tray and the Z9 will register on the mobile network automatically. This dual connectivity is what makes the Z9 ideal for delivery, markets, and tableside — you only need one working connection to process payments.
3Load parameters and activate
- With the Z9 online, download its parameters — the settings that link the terminal to your merchant account and processor. Open the setup or download menu and start the parameter download. The terminal contacts the host, pulls your configuration, and reboots.
- After it restarts, the Z9 is activated and ready to accept live EMV chip, contactless tap, and magstripe swipe payments. If the download stalls, confirm your connection and your terminal ID (TID). Our Puerto Rico team can push parameters to your Z9 remotely if you get stuck.
4Load receipt paper into the built-in printer
- The Z9 has a built-in thermal printer. Open the printer bay latch on top of the terminal, drop in a roll of thermal paper so it feeds from the bottom of the roll, and pull a short tail past the cutter before closing the lid until it clicks.
- Use standard 57mm thermal rolls sized for portable terminals. If receipts print blank, the roll is likely upside down — thermal paper only prints on one side, so flip it so the coated side faces the print head.
5Run a test transaction
- Before your first customer, run a small test sale to confirm the Z9 works end to end. Ring up a low amount, then insert a chip card, tap a contactless card or phone, and swipe a magstripe card to verify all three read methods respond.
- Void or refund the test right away so it does not settle. Confirm the receipt prints cleanly from the built-in printer and the totals appear correctly. A clean test is the final checkpoint that your Dejavoo Z9 setup is complete and ready for business.
6Reprint a receipt, then settle the batch
- To reprint a customer's last receipt, open the transactions or reprint menu and choose the last receipt or a specific transaction number. The Z9 will print a duplicate marked as a copy — handy when a printer jam ate the original.
- At the end of each day, settle your batch so funds move to your account. From the main menu choose Settle or Batch, confirm the totals match your sales, and let the Z9 close the batch. Settling nightly keeps your deposits on schedule and your reporting clean.
7Troubleshooting common issues
- If the Z9 will not connect, restart your router or re-seat the SIM, and re-enter the Wi-Fi password watching for a wrong character. If a parameter download fails, verify the TID and retry on a stronger signal. Declined test cards usually mean activation did not finish — re-run the parameter download.
- If the battery drains fast, lower screen brightness and dock the terminal between sales. For printing problems, reopen the paper bay and reseat the roll so it feeds from the bottom. If anything still looks off, reach out — local support means a real person who knows Puerto Rico merchants.
