PAX A920 Quick Start Guide

From box to first sale in about 30 minutes.

This PAX A920 quick start walks you through the full setup — charging and powering on, connecting to Wi-Fi, activating the payment app, running a test sale, printing receipts, and settling your batch — with local Puerto Rico support behind you the whole way.

PAX A920 smart payment terminal ready for quick start setup

The PAX A920 is a sleek, Android-based smart terminal that accepts tap, chip, and swipe payments on Wi-Fi or LTE, prints receipts on its built-in printer, and fits in one hand. Getting it running is quick, and this reference breaks the process into seven simple steps. Follow them in order and you will be taking payments the same day your device arrives. Our PAX A920 terminal is supported by a Caribbean Payments team based right here in Puerto Rico, so help is only a call away.

1.Charge and power on the PAX A920

  1. Confirm your box includes the PAX A920 smart terminal, the USB-C charger, and a roll of thermal receipt paper. Set the device on a flat surface near an outlet and plug it in for its first full charge — about 60 minutes gets you to 100%.
  2. Load the paper by lifting the printer latch on top, dropping the roll in so paper feeds from underneath, and pulling a short tail out before you close the lid. Then press and hold the power button on the right edge until the PAX logo appears and the home screen loads.

2.Connect the A920 to Wi-Fi

  1. From the home screen, open Settings and tap Wi-Fi (or swipe down and hold the Wi-Fi icon). Turn the radio on, choose your business network, enter the password, and wait for the status to show Connected.
  2. The A920 also ships with a 4G/LTE SIM option for mobile acceptance. If you take payments away from the counter — a food truck, a market stall, a delivery route — ask our team to enable data so the terminal stays online anywhere on the island.

3.Activate the payment app

  1. With the terminal online, open the payment application from the home screen. On first launch it will ask for an activation or terminal ID code tied to your merchant account — enter the exact code from your Caribbean Payments welcome details.
  2. The app then downloads your merchant profile, tax settings, and encryption keys, and may prompt for a quick update or restart. Let it finish; this one-time step links every future transaction to your business correctly.

4.Run a test sale — tap, chip, or swipe

  1. Before going live, prove the whole path works. In the payment app choose Sale, key in a small amount such as $1.00, and present a card you control. Tap it against the top of the screen for contactless, insert the chip into the slot at the base, or swipe through the side magstripe reader.
  2. Wait for the Approved message, then void the transaction from the Transactions or History menu right away. A clean approval and reversal confirms the reader, your network, and your merchant account are all communicating.

5.Print, email, and reprint receipts

  1. After each approval the A920 offers a receipt. Tap Print for a thermal copy, or choose Email or SMS to send a digital receipt — handy for saving paper and capturing customer contact details.
  2. Need a duplicate later? Open the Transactions menu, find the sale, and tap Reprint. If the printer runs out mid-sale, reload paper and reprint from that same screen — the transaction itself is already saved, so no sale is ever lost.

6.Settle and batch out

  1. At the end of each business day, settle your batch so the day's approved sales are sent for funding. Open the payment app menu, choose Settlement or Batch, and confirm — the terminal totals every transaction and closes the batch.
  2. Many merchants prefer auto-settlement at a fixed time each night; our team can switch that on for you. Once the batch closes, funds move to your account on your normal deposit schedule.

7.Troubleshooting quick fixes

  1. If a card is declined, ask the customer to try again or use another card — most declines come from the issuing bank, not the terminal. If the A920 drops offline, re-check Wi-Fi in Settings or switch to the LTE connection.
  2. Charge the device overnight, install updates when prompted, and restart it weekly for smooth performance. If a batch will not settle or the app looks stuck, our local Puerto Rico support team can walk you through it by phone — you are never on your own.

PAX A920 Quick Start FAQ

How long does PAX A920 quick start setup take?

Most merchants complete PAX A920 setup in about 20 to 30 minutes, plus initial charging time. Powering on, connecting to Wi-Fi, and activating the payment app are quick, and a short test sale confirms you are ready to accept real payments.

Do I need Wi-Fi to use the PAX A920?

Wi-Fi is the simplest way to get started, but the PAX A920 also supports a 4G/LTE SIM. That means you can accept tap, chip, and swipe payments anywhere you have a cellular signal in Puerto Rico — at a market, a job site, or on a delivery route.

How do I reprint a receipt on the PAX A920?

Open the Transactions or History menu in the payment app, select the sale you need, and tap Reprint. Because every transaction is stored on the device, you can reprint a thermal copy or resend an email receipt even after the sale is finished.

Yes. Caribbean Payments is a local Puerto Rico team, and we help merchants activate, settle, and troubleshoot the PAX A920 every day. Reach out by phone or email and we will guide you through each step so your first payment goes smoothly.
